A Token From Grandpa...Chapter 10

Nana Ajoa was about to turn on the shower when she heard the knock on the door.  She quickly wrapped a towel around her and rushed to the door.  She instinctively pulled back inside the house when she realized it wasn’t her husband.  But she instantly regretted her action and stepped back out.

            “Harold, how are?”
            “Fine.  How about you?”
            “I’m fine.  Thanks.”
            “I’ve really missed you.”
“Harold, you need to go on with your life…”
            “May I come in?”
“In fact, I’m expecting my husband any moment from now.  I don’t feel comfortable about him meeting just the two of us here like this, if you know what I mean.”
“Nana, you can’t do this to me.  Your dad just told me you’re getting a divorce.”
            “Getting a what?”
“Divorce.  He said your husband walked out on you.”
“Wait a minute.  My dad told you I’m getting a divorce?  My dad?”
“Forget who said what.  It’s okay to let the world know if you’re getting a divorce, especially from a man who walks away from a woman like you.”
“Harold, I’m sorry I may have sent you the wrong message by kissing you the last time we met.  I was going through a lot and you provided a shoulder for me to lean on.  I’m very grateful for that.  But everything happened so fast and I lost myself.  Ato and I still love each other very much.  What we went through was not Ato’s fault.  Anyone who is married will tell you that these things happen.  I don’t know who gave my dad the idea that I’m getting a divorce.  I’m not.”
            “Nana, listen…”
“I’m sorry, Harold, you need to go now.  I don’t want Ato to meet us here like this.”

As she turned away from him, he tried to hold her but inadvertently caught the loose end of the towel and it dropped to the floor around her feet.  Her knees buckled in embarrassment and, as she fell to the ground, he instinctively reached out to help her.  They both went down in an awkward heap.
